Grupo Firme, known for its fictional corridos and lyrics focused on love and heartbreak, has stayed away from themes related to drug trafficking. The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, launched the 'Mexico Sings' campaign, urging songwriters to create regional Mexican music that does not glorify violence or drugs, as part of the fight for peace and against addiction.
Although there is no official prohibition on corridos in Mexico, Sheinbaum clarified that the decision to allow or not allow this type of music lies with local governments. Grupo Firme, in particular, is known for its song 'La pantera se fue', which tells the story of a character linked to drug trafficking who dies violently in a shooting attack.
Eduin Caz, the lead vocalist of Grupo Firme, has been clear in his stance on narcocorridos, refusing to sing this type of music. At a concert in Veracruz, he became upset with the audience that insisted on hearing 'La pantera', considering it disrespectful to pressure him to perform that song. Caz emphasized that the band will no longer sing narcocorridos, thus supporting Sheinbaum's campaign and reiterating their commitment to music without glorification of violence.
